TREES LOUNGE

“In my early teens I wanted to start a film collection. I went into town with my big brother and got four VHS’s (DVD’s were too expensive). The first three I chose myself (Breakfast Club and the first 2 Naked Gun movies). The fourth my brother suggested. «It’s by that guy from Ghost World.» He told me. I was sold. Although the Naked Gun movies might have been the high art films of that selection it’s Trees Lounge that stuck with me (f#ck the breakfast club). Here’s a few reasons why:

• Written by, directed by and starring Steve Buscemi.
• Small town film about a struggling alcoholic whose life is falling apart, manages to be really funny, really intense, gritty, dark and at the same time light and dreamy. A good mix.
• The whole cast is nuts (imdb it!) But for me a huge plus is Seymour Cassel. He makes anything worth watching.
• A soundtrack made by none other than Evan Laurie from The Lounge Lizards.
• A bunch of cool scenes involving an ice cream truck.
• One scene includes a sleazy drinking party trick you can copy next time next time you’re in a bar/drinking (if that’s the kind of thing you’re into).

Bryn Bowen (f.1987) er en artist og låtskriver fra Birmingham, England, som har bodd i Bergen siden 2012. Grunnlegger av plateselskapet Giant Manilow Records, og vokalist i The Shalfonts som har gitt ut hele 14 plater. Soloprosjektet hans, Mountain Cloth, hadde base i Bergen og ga ut to plater før de ble oppløst. I tillegg til å fortsatt lage musikk på egenhånd har han blitt med i det nye Bergensbandet The Real Jobs som både er lekent og mørkt, det hele båret av Bowens lyrikk som han selv kaller «everyday-psykedelia».
